Kathmandu: In the fiscal year 2079/80 in Kathmandu, a total of 149 drivers were apprehended by the Traffic Police for driving under the influence of drugs. This significant action was taken against these individuals, as announced by Senior Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad Bhatta, the spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.

The special operation to detect drug-impaired drivers was conducted throughout the Kathmandu Valley, thanks to the collaboration between the Traffic Police Office, Nepal Police Hospital, and the Narcotics Control Bureau. This joint effort allowed for comprehensive testing and identification of drivers who were under the influence of drugs.

Of particular concern were the drivers of public vehicles who were found to be operating their vehicles while impaired. This offense is regarded as highly serious due to the potential risks it poses to the lives of passengers. SSP Bhatta emphasized the gravity of this situation, highlighting the need for stricter actions against such drivers.

To further enhance road safety, the Traffic Police Office urged passengers to promptly report any suspicions regarding drug-impaired public vehicle drivers. They provided several channels for reporting, including contacting the nearest police office, the traffic control room hotline number 103, or the police hotline number 100.

The collective efforts of the Traffic Police, Nepal Police Hospital, and the Narcotics Control Bureau in detecting and taking action against drug-impaired drivers serve as a vital step towards ensuring the safety and security of road users in Kathmandu.
